Mountain biking and walking in Valencia

Mountain biking and walking in Valencia

Last week I had the pleasure of spending a couple of days with Monika, a client from New Zealand who was spending some time exploring Southern Europe.  She had arranged to spend a few days in Valencia and wanted to combine the delights of this very special city with a couple of days of guided activity in the local mountains.  Having discussed her wishes, we designed a couple of days that would include mountain biking and walking in Valencia.  Both days would be spent in the Sierra de Calderona, a wonderful mountainous Natural Park that´s less than 30 minutes by [read more]

Weekend Break & Mountain Biking in Xativa.

Weekend Break & Mountain Biking in Xativa.

On Saturday 9th March, I had the pleasure of providing a full day of guided mountain biking for a couple of Dutch clients. This was the second trip with me for one of them, so it was great to welcome him back to our area. For the other, it was his first visit and he´d made the trip from his home in Ireland.  They´d opted for a weekend break in the historical town of Xativa and to spend Saturday out on the trails. We chose a route of some 40km, that took in some superb trails up in the Sierra [read more]

Biking in Valencia - Something a little different!

Biking in Valencia – Something a little different!

Last week, having spent a few days out in the hills with clients I was in the mood for a long ride with a difference. Most of my clients are looking for cross country mountain bike routes, although from time to time, some clients tend to look for something without the technical challenges of off-road riding but still want a long day out.   With this in mind, I wanted to work on a route that would offer something completely different – and with huge variety. Essentially, I wanted to design a route that would begin in the countryside of [read more]

Guided Mountain Biking for Individuals

Guided Mountain Biking for Individuals

Following an especially hot and dry August, September has seen a dramatic drop of over 10oC, giving peak day time temperatures of 25 degrees. With a gentle breeze, this provided superb conditions for today´s ride. Anthony, a GP from UK was on holiday with friends and family and had contacted us to arrange a day of guided mountain biking. A fit and experienced rider, he was looking for quite a long and varied route that would provide him with a taste of the Valencian hills and countryside. He rented one of our Trek mountain bikes and after a few minor [read more]

Mountain Biking in the Mountains of Valencia.

Mountain Biking in the Mountains of Valencia.

On Monday 13th August, together with my regular riding buddy Mark (he likes to see his titles change from initially “client” to “returning client” to “regular riding partner” and so on!…) I completed a superb route around the valleys and peaks of the Serpis and Gallinera area of Valencia. Despite the heat, once we were on the move it was quite comfortable – an advantage of biking over walking in the summer months is that there´s always a breeze.  We started by descending into the very pretty Serpis valley where we followed the riverside trail to the village of Lorxa. A Morning in the Mountains

A Morning in the Mountains

Last week, together with regular biking partner Mark I enjoyed a great ride out in the mountains that surround our village. In the summer heat it´s always worth adapting the routes to get the steepest or longest climb done first whilst the morning is still relatively fresh. We began by climbing out of the La Drova valley up a steep track that placed us on top of the Sierra de Marxuquera. The hard work done, we then enjoyed a relaxed ride over the hills before beginning our descent into the remote mountain village of Pinet where we sat in the [read more]

Last week I enjoyed a great day out with a couple of clients from England.  Alan and Sarah are outdoor enthusiasts and had already enjoyed a day´s walking whilst on holiday here in La Drova.  Sarah has many years of mountaineering experience and Alan is a regular biker. We were fortunate in that there was some cloud cover as we biked out of La Drova towards the village of Barx.  Once on the trail we spent a little time practising safe techniques for descending and ascending loose and rocky trails.  Both Sarah and Alan found this to be of great [read more]

A Birthday Present - Guided Mountain Biking!

A Birthday Present – Guided Mountain Biking!

On Saturday 12th May I was fortunate enough to provide a day of guided mountain biking for a couple from Palma de Gandia.  Both of them keen, fit and active, Alison had booked the trip as a gift for her husband´s birthday. We began the day with a coffee in the Valle de Albaida from where the ride began before getting the only sustained climb of the day done before the sun was too high in the sky.  Both riders soon began to feel comfortable with the bikes and were clearly enjoying the stoney trails through the mountains. A great [read more]

Guided Biking for Families in Valencia

Guided Biking for Families in Valencia

On 10th April I had the pleasure of providing a guided biking trip for a family group who were holidaying in Spain.  The group comprised 4 adults and 2 children, both aged 10.  Although some members had mountain biking experience, others didn´t so we opted to do a trip around the Natural Park of Albufera de Valencia.  Although the route was 34km in length, it was flat with no technical terrain. Each member of the group hired a mountain bike from us, and after some last minute checks, we began the ride.  To make the day more interesting for the [read more]
