On 28th March, we arranged a day of guided mountain biking for a Dutch couple who were taking a short break in the city of Valencia and wanted to make the most of the region´s beautiful mountains. They took the train from Valencia to Gandia, passing through the natural park and rice fields of Albufera along the way.  We met in Gandia and made the short road journey to the start of the route in the La Safor mountains.  Although both very active people, they were new to mountain biking, so the day commenced with a brief safety demonstration, and [read more]

Tailor Made Biking Weekend.

Tailor Made Biking Weekend.

Last weekend I had the pleasure of meeting Perrine and Laurens from Belgium.  They had recently contacted me to arrange a weekend in our area as part of a longer stay in the Valencia region. Having listened to their plans, I suggested a package offer that combined pick-up from the local railway station, 2 nights accommodation at a local country guest house, a day of guided mountain biking and drop-off at their next hotel.  Having agreed terms, they made the reservation and soon after I met them at Gandia railway station. Biking in Valencia - Something a little different!

Biking in Valencia – Something a little different!

Last week, having spent a few days out in the hills with clients I was in the mood for a long ride with a difference. Most of my clients are looking for cross country mountain bike routes, although from time to time, some clients tend to look for something without the technical challenges of off-road riding but still want a long day out.   With this in mind, I wanted to work on a route that would offer something completely different – and with huge variety. Essentially, I wanted to design a route that would begin in the countryside of [read more]

Following an especially hot and dry August, September has seen a dramatic drop of over 10oC, giving peak day time temperatures of 25 degrees. With a gentle breeze, this provided superb conditions for today´s ride. Anthony, a GP from UK was on holiday with friends and family and had contacted us to arrange a day of guided mountain biking. A fit and experienced rider, he was looking for quite a long and varied route that would provide him with a taste of the Valencian hills and countryside. He rented one of our Trek mountain bikes and after a few minor [read more]

Mountain Biking in the Mountains of Valencia.

Mountain Biking in the Mountains of Valencia.

On Monday 13th August, together with my regular riding buddy Mark (he likes to see his titles change from initially “client” to “returning client” to “regular riding partner” and so on!…) I completed a superb route around the valleys and peaks of the Serpis and Gallinera area of Valencia. Despite the heat, once we were on the move it was quite comfortable – an advantage of biking over walking in the summer months is that there´s always a breeze.  We started by descending into the very pretty Serpis valley where we followed the riverside trail to the village of Lorxa. Guided Cycling for Families with Children

Guided Cycling for Families with Children

On Sunday 5th August I provided a day of guided cycling for a family who were holidaying at Villa Florencia guest house in Marxuquera. They had all cycled before although not all had experience of off-road riding and there were two young children within the group. Therefore, we opted to do a route that explored the rice fields of the Albufera Natural Park. To add to the experience, we also included a traditional paella lunch and a boat trip on the Albufera lake.   The children took turns to navigate the route through the network of trails that cross the [read more]
