Bespoke Active Tourism in Valencia

Bespoke Active Tourism in Valencia

Last week I had the pleasure of welcoming back a group of returning clients from UK.  They had previously visited the Valencia region on numerous occasions so knew the area well.  Prior to their trip, we had worked together to design a specific package of activities for them, aimed at delivering exactly what they were looking for from their holiday.  Ultimately, this included bike hire, a day of guided biking and a day of guided mountain walking.   Our first day together was a long and challenging trip.  We had opted to trek up the spectacular 1100m peak of Benicadell [read more]

Guided Mountain Biking for Couples

Guided Mountain Biking for Couples

On Saturday 6th April, we arranged a day of guided mountain biking for a couple from Valencia.  This was part of a surprise weekend break, and included two nights at the rural guest house La Casona Ferrando in our home village of La Drova. Fernando and Vibrana were new to mountain biking so we opted for a beautiful route that passes through a wooded limestone gorge, not technical but sufficiently challenging to provide a great environment in which to learn some basic off-road techniques. After the usual safety briefing, we began with a gentle trail before taking on a steep [read more]

Tailor Made Biking Weekend.

Tailor Made Biking Weekend.

Last weekend I had the pleasure of meeting Perrine and Laurens from Belgium.  They had recently contacted me to arrange a weekend in our area as part of a longer stay in the Valencia region. Having listened to their plans, I suggested a package offer that combined pick-up from the local railway station, 2 nights accommodation at a local country guest house, a day of guided mountain biking and drop-off at their next hotel.  Having agreed terms, they made the reservation and soon after I met them at Gandia railway station. They spent their weekend at the guest house “Casona [read more]

Biking in Valencia - Something a little different!

Biking in Valencia – Something a little different!

Last week, having spent a few days out in the hills with clients I was in the mood for a long ride with a difference. Most of my clients are looking for cross country mountain bike routes, although from time to time, some clients tend to look for something without the technical challenges of off-road riding but still want a long day out.   With this in mind, I wanted to work on a route that would offer something completely different – and with huge variety. Essentially, I wanted to design a route that would begin in the countryside of [read more]

Mountain Biking in the Mountains of Valencia.

Mountain Biking in the Mountains of Valencia.

On Monday 13th August, together with my regular riding buddy Mark (he likes to see his titles change from initially “client” to “returning client” to “regular riding partner” and so on!…) I completed a superb route around the valleys and peaks of the Serpis and Gallinera area of Valencia. Despite the heat, once we were on the move it was quite comfortable – an advantage of biking over walking in the summer months is that there´s always a breeze.  We started by descending into the very pretty Serpis valley where we followed the riverside trail to the village of Lorxa. 18th Birthday Mountain Biking!

18th Birthday Mountain Biking!

On Thursday 9th August, I provided a guided mountain bike trip for a father and two sons who were holidaying at Villa Florencia in Marxuquera.  The eldest of the sons was celebrating his 18th birthday on that very day. The forecast was for temperatures to peak at around 32 degrees C but all 3 riders were fit and experienced.  With some sensible precautions, it´s possible to ride in these conditions.  Having ensured that we were carrying sufficient water and sun protection, and having amended the route accordingly, we set out.  I´d modified the route such that the main climb was [read more]

Guided Cycling for Families with Children

Guided Cycling for Families with Children

On Sunday 5th August I provided a day of guided cycling for a family who were holidaying at Villa Florencia guest house in Marxuquera. They had all cycled before although not all had experience of off-road riding and there were two young children within the group. Therefore, we opted to do a route that explored the rice fields of the Albufera Natural Park. To add to the experience, we also included a traditional paella lunch and a boat trip on the Albufera lake.   The children took turns to navigate the route through the network of trails that cross the [read more]

Cycling for Families in Spain

Cycling for Families in Spain

On Saturday 28th July I had the pleasure of arranging a family biking trip around the Natural Park of Albufera de Valencia. The trip was arranged as a gift for two Spanish children who had recently completed their school year and had achieved good exam results.   Not all of our trips are specifically aimed at mountain bikers, and today´s route was selected especially for this group of beginners and children. All along flat, largely surfaced lanes it provided a really interesting day out without the hazards of technical or demanding terrain.  We parked by the ancient chapel of Del [read more]
