Mountain biking and walking in Valencia

Mountain biking and walking in Valencia

Last week I had the pleasure of spending a couple of days with Monika, a client from New Zealand who was spending some time exploring Southern Europe.  She had arranged to spend a few days in Valencia and wanted to combine the delights of this very special city with a couple of days of guided activity in the local mountains.  Having discussed her wishes, we designed a couple of days that would include mountain biking and walking in Valencia.  Both days would be spent in the Sierra de Calderona, a wonderful mountainous Natural Park that´s less than 30 minutes by [read more]

Mountain Biking Near the City of Valencia

Last weekend we provided a day of guided mountain biking for a couple of returning clients. They were enjoying a short break in this vibrant Mediterranean city and wanted to enjoy a day of guided mountain biking near the city of Valencia. Although a coastal city, one of its many advantages is its proximity to the mountains. Today´s route was in the Sierra de Calderona, a designated Natural Park within very easy reach of Valencia. Having collected my clients from their city centre hotel, within just 35 minutes we were unloading the bikes from the van and beginning our route. [read more]

This autumn has been unusually warm even by Valencian standards, with November midday temperatures reaching 30 degrees C on many days.  Therefore the sudden drop to around 12 degrees was somewhat of a shock this weekend.  However, the day dawned bright with only light cloud and a good deal of sunshine. My clients for the day were a couple of cyclists from the south coast of England.  One of them owned a holiday property in the area and was keen to enjoy a day of guided mountain biking with his friend who was visiting with family.  We soon solved the [read more]

Last week I had the pleasure of welcoming back a group of returning clients from UK.  They had previously visited the Valencia region on numerous occasions so knew the area well.  Prior to their trip, we had worked together to design a specific package of activities for them, aimed at delivering exactly what they were looking for from their holiday.  Ultimately, this included bike hire, a day of guided biking and a day of guided mountain walking.   Our first day together was a long and challenging trip.  We had opted to trek up the spectacular 1100m peak of Benicadell [read more]

Guided Mountain Biking for Couples

Guided Mountain Biking for Couples

On Saturday 6th April, we arranged a day of guided mountain biking for a couple from Valencia.  This was part of a surprise weekend break, and included two nights at the rural guest house La Casona Ferrando in our home village of La Drova. Fernando and Vibrana were new to mountain biking so we opted for a beautiful route that passes through a wooded limestone gorge, not technical but sufficiently challenging to provide a great environment in which to learn some basic off-road techniques. After the usual safety briefing, we began with a gentle trail before taking on a steep [read more]

On 28th March, we arranged a day of guided mountain biking for a Dutch couple who were taking a short break in the city of Valencia and wanted to make the most of the region´s beautiful mountains. They took the train from Valencia to Gandia, passing through the natural park and rice fields of Albufera along the way.  We met in Gandia and made the short road journey to the start of the route in the La Safor mountains.  Although both very active people, they were new to mountain biking, so the day commenced with a brief safety demonstration, and [read more]
