Mountain Biking Short Breaks.

Mountain Biking Short Breaks.

Early this week I had the pleasure of working with a group of four clients from UK who had designed a holiday that was based upon a city break in Valencia followed by a 3 night mountain bike package at Villa Florencia in Marxuquera, close to Gandia.  All experienced outdoor enthusiasts, they were keen to get out on the mountain bikes to explore this beautiful region. After an informal discussion about the kind of routes they were looking for, we decided on a ride for day one that would take us through a narrow limestone gorge along a riverside trail.  This [read more]

Training Ride for Marathon Charity Bike Trip in Cuba.

I recently had the pleasure of meeting Karen and Chris from Manchester, UK.  They were on vacation in La Drova and had previously booked a day of guided mountain biking with me.  The day was especially interesting as Karen was training for a 400km bike trip across Cuba to raise funds for a women’s cancer charity.  You can see more information on Karen’s Blog. As well as an ideal training ride, we also included some fundamental off-road skills training.  The day began with a ride through the Barxeta valley, then through orange groves to the beautiful and historical town of [read more]

Guided Mountain Biking for Couples

Guided Mountain Biking for Couples

On Saturday 6th April, we arranged a day of guided mountain biking for a couple from Valencia.  This was part of a surprise weekend break, and included two nights at the rural guest house La Casona Ferrando in our home village of La Drova. Fernando and Vibrana were new to mountain biking so we opted for a beautiful route that passes through a wooded limestone gorge, not technical but sufficiently challenging to provide a great environment in which to learn some basic off-road techniques. After the usual safety briefing, we began with a gentle trail before taking on a steep [read more]

On 28th March, we arranged a day of guided mountain biking for a Dutch couple who were taking a short break in the city of Valencia and wanted to make the most of the region´s beautiful mountains. They took the train from Valencia to Gandia, passing through the natural park and rice fields of Albufera along the way.  We met in Gandia and made the short road journey to the start of the route in the La Safor mountains.  Although both very active people, they were new to mountain biking, so the day commenced with a brief safety demonstration, and [read more]

On Saturday 10th November we provided a full day of guided mountain biking for a couple from Madrid. Both very fit and active, Baas was already an experienced mountain biker and had recently built his own bike. Lisa was relatively new to the sport so was keen to learn some technique. They had chosen to spend the night at Casa Aldomar in the beautiful old town of Xativa and as they only had one day in the area, we opted for a long ride with some technical training built into the day. We began with a brief demonstration of bike [read more]

Tailor Made Biking Weekend.

Tailor Made Biking Weekend.

Last weekend I had the pleasure of meeting Perrine and Laurens from Belgium.  They had recently contacted me to arrange a weekend in our area as part of a longer stay in the Valencia region. Having listened to their plans, I suggested a package offer that combined pick-up from the local railway station, 2 nights accommodation at a local country guest house, a day of guided mountain biking and drop-off at their next hotel.  Having agreed terms, they made the reservation and soon after I met them at Gandia railway station. They spent their weekend at the guest house “Casona [read more]

On Monday 13th August, together with my regular riding buddy Mark (he likes to see his titles change from initially “client” to “returning client” to “regular riding partner” and so on!…) I completed a superb route around the valleys and peaks of the Serpis and Gallinera area of Valencia. Despite the heat, once we were on the move it was quite comfortable – an advantage of biking over walking in the summer months is that there´s always a breeze.  We started by descending into the very pretty Serpis valley where we followed the riverside trail to the village of Lorxa. Cycling for Families in Spain

On Saturday 28th July I had the pleasure of arranging a family biking trip around the Natural Park of Albufera de Valencia. The trip was arranged as a gift for two Spanish children who had recently completed their school year and had achieved good exam results.   Not all of our trips are specifically aimed at mountain bikers, and today´s route was selected especially for this group of beginners and children. All along flat, largely surfaced lanes it provided a really interesting day out without the hazards of technical or demanding terrain.  We parked by the ancient chapel of Del [read more]

On Friday 27th July, I spent a very enjoyable morning biking with a French client who was holidaying with family here in our home village of La Drova.  Although not a regular mountain biker, he was certainly an experienced cyclist and last year had in fact cycled to La Drova from his home in Toulouse! We began the day with a relaxed ride through the valley of La Drova on dirt tracks then headed inland along some rocky trails and wooded singletrack.  We then joined a trail through orange groves and pedalled into the Barxeta Valley.  We were making good [read more]
