Last week I was delighted to provide some guidied mountain biking in Valencia for a returning client. Damian from UK completed a skills course with us three years ago, then returned to Valencia last year to do some guided cross country mountain biking.
His skills and fitness have further improved so I´m delighted to say that he recently returned for his third trip, this time looking for longer and more challenging rides.
We arranged two days in the Sierra de Calderona, a Natural Park within easy reach of Valencia.
Day 1 was a long cross country ride on the north side of the Sierra, a route of some 35kms, almost all off-road and with a total of more than 11000 metres of climbing. The weather was beautiful, very warm for November even by local standards. The route took in some big climbs, a remote hill farming village and a long and demanding descent.
Day 2 saw us on a shorter route on the south east side of the Sierra although with some challenging little rocky climbs and a few steep descents. The recent heavy rains of late October had loosened up some of the trails which made for some interesting descents, but with a little extra care and focus we had a great ride.
Sitting in the autumn sunshine with a beer after the ride it was great to reflect on the many rides that we´d done together over the past few years and to talk of what may lie ahead.
