Early this week I had the pleasure of working with a group of four clients from UK who had designed a holiday that was based upon a city break in Valencia followed by a 3 night mountain bike package at Villa Florencia in Marxuquera, close to Gandia.  All experienced outdoor enthusiasts, they were keen to get out on the mountain bikes to explore this beautiful region.

After an informal discussion about the kind of routes they were looking for, we decided on a ride for day one that would take us through a narrow limestone gorge along a riverside trail.  This would provide an ideal opportunity to become accustomed to the bikes and to riding in the heat.

Having pedalled through the gorge then out into the fertile Beniarres valley, we stopped for a coffee break in the village square before tackling the return leg.  This included a refreshing river crossing before we took once again to the rocky trail that took us back through the gorge.

We enjoyed an evening meal on the terrace of Villa Florencia then after a good night sleep we opted for a longer route for day 2.  This began on some relaxed lanes through the Barxeta Valley before we took to some more technically demanding trails that involved some rocky descents and accents.  This lead us to the historical town of Xativa where we took in a short urban circuit of the antique quarter prior to a coffee break on the main boulevard.

The return journey was via some quite demanding rocky trails, quite narrow in places but always amongst very pretty scenery.  After another drinks stop in a local farming village, we completed the final few kms through orange groves and thus back to the van.

The group had really enjoyed their stay, and I´d enjoyed a couple of great days, with fun routes and in great company!
