I recently had the pleasure of meeting Karen and Chris from Manchester, UK. They were on vacation in La Drova and had previously booked a day of guided mountain biking with me. The day was especially interesting as Karen was training for a 400km bike trip across Cuba to raise funds for a women’s cancer charity. You can see more information on Karen’s Blog.
As well as an ideal training ride, we also included some fundamental off-road skills training. The day began with a ride through the Barxeta valley, then through orange groves to the beautiful and historical town of Xativa. After a coffee break in the market square, we headed out onto the trails that took us through a very pretty limestone valley. This provided ideal opportunity to practice some techniques for safe and efficient descent and ascent on rocky ground, albeit it beautiful surroundings.
After a picnic lunch under the imposing crag of Aventador, we headed along some different tracks back through the Barxeta valley before taking on the final climb of the day back up into Barx and La Drova.
Hopefully the day had provided Karen with some useful training and skills which will be of use when she takes on her challenge in October, which will surely be a tough challenge but for such a worthy cause.
