We have recently arranged a week´s activity holiday for Anne and Nigel from Worcester, UK.  Together, we designed a bespoke package that included guided mountain biking and mountain walking.

They stayed at the guest house Villa Florencia, situated in the beautiful valley of Marxuquera.  During the “welcome dinner” on the evening of their arrival we discussed the various options for the week.  Although both were very experienced outdoor enthusiasts we opted for a relatively gentle ride for the first day – a route of some 36km through a very pretty limestone gorge.

We set out along a wooded trail before descending into the gorge.  The previous week had been very stormy and the unusual and extreme rainfall ensured that the river was in full spate.  The sheer force of the rainfall had indeed brought a few loose boulders crashing down the cliffs, some of which were still partly blocking the trail.

We biked along the rocky trail until the end of the gorge where we entered the lush green valley of Beniarres, with its reservoir and seemingly endless olive groves.  After a coffee stop in the village we made our way back through the gorge, up through the woods and back to the van.  The day had provided Anne and Nigel with a great introduction to the area and had left them motivated to enjoy more mountain biking later in the week.
