On Saturday 10th November we provided a full day of guided mountain biking for a couple from Madrid. Both very fit and active, Baas was already an experienced mountain biker and had recently built his own bike. Lisa was relatively new to the sport so was keen to learn some technique.
They had chosen to spend the night at Casa Aldomar in the beautiful old town of Xativa and as they only had one day in the area, we opted for a long ride with some technical training built into the day.
We began with a brief demonstration of bike “set-up” then set out along an easy trail heading out of town. Our first focus was a descent on loose gravel and stones. Both perfected the techniques and commented as to how “in control” they felt.
The next section was a beautiful stretch of single track running along a limestone valley. We had another session on safe descending, this time a little steeper with a few more rocks. We then moved onto a rocky ascent, concentrating on smooth power delivery and body position. Both riders were doing extremely well, riding safely and in control whilst increasing in confidence. Baas and I spent a brief session on drop-offs by descending a few steps before we continued our way through the valley.
After a picnic lunch in a very pretty wooded location we continued along the trail before taking to the road for a short while. After a climb of some 20 minutes we arrived at the start of a fantastic rocky trail that would lead us through a pass and down into the next valley. We used this to develop the techniques and skills required to ride safely and loose ground, stones and sand.
We eventually arrived in the next valley and as available daylight was at a premium, we opted to take the shortest route back to Xativa.
We´d had a great day and hopefully Baas and Lisa had taken away plenty of techniques that they can use in the future.
